Who We Are

Welcome to the world of rescuing small dogs. Li’l LapDog Rescue has, since 2003, found homes for over 500 dogs.  We have 5 foster homes and there are usually about 20+ dogs waiting for adoption.

URGENT Li'l Lapdog Rescue has a critical need for foster homes.  The economic downturn has people turning in their toy dogs to animal shelters at an alarming rate.  Our current foster homes are overflowing.  If more volunteers are not found soon, we will be forced to stop accepting dogs, which would mean a veritable death sentence for these unique and delightful toy breeds.  For more information, see below

Adopting a friend

Do you really want a rescue dog?
Do you want a dog who may not be housetrained;
  may have health issues that might be ongoing for some time or maybe for life;
  a baby who needs lots of love and attention;    one who might not be beautiful or perfectly groomed;    who might chew up your favorite slippers;
  and who might take a little time to adjust to your home and friends?
If you can answer "YES" to these questions, a rescue dog just might be exactly what you need. An application to adopt can be found at the forms tab above, or will be emailed to you upon request. This is a commitment. These dogs need stable and loving homes to help them get over any bad memories they may have.

Our Approach

We strive to match the adopter to the dog. Every dog lives in a foster home as a family member so that they can be evaluated as to their needs. Volunteers check references and do home visits to screen applicants. Dogs come into rescue for many reasons; housetraining issues, barking, they run away and become strays, owners are moving, cannot afford vet care or the dog just doesn’t fit their life style anymore. We stress finding “furever” homes for our furbabies, not just another place to live.  In the present economy, many dogs find themselves "out on the street" due to financial reasons.

IMPORTANT NOTICE ABOUT FOSTERING: If you are a dog lover, you could help us save little dogs one at a time. Li'l LapDog Rescue is actively looking for people who will take ONE dog into their home until it is adopted. This is sometimes as short as one month or as long as 3 mos. You must complete a foster application and have a home visit. Please consider fostering.
